DRIS Needs Your Support!  Give Today!

“My sister and I are making this donation in memory of our mother.  We appreciate the service you offered her for so many years when she couldn’t read.  She enjoyed your programs very much and we hope our gift can help someone else.”

Do you know someone who has lost the ability to read?    All of us experience some degree of vision decline as we age. But a severe, irreversible vision loss is devastating and can lead to chronic withdrawal and isolation. After all, literacy is a key to personal independence and self-confidence.

At DRIS our top applicants have depended on reading for years.  Thankfully, with your help they still can.

Your support of the Detroit Radio Information Service (DRIS), metro-Detroit’s only Radio Reading Service, will help brighten the days for thousands of blind and print-impaired listeners as they connect to important visual and printed information, learn of new resources and make life choices as first-class citizens.

We want to update you on our work and send heartfelt thanks for your commitment and encouragement. Individual gifts like yours have made DRIS possible for 34 years!

A few key highlights from the last year:

  • Provided a dynamic 24-hour program schedule, including the verbatim reading of 100-plus newspapers, magazines, websites and periodicals a week, special interest programs, store sale circulars, work, health and public safety tips, and local announcements.
  • Produced up to11 hours of original local programming a day, seven days a week.
  • Reviewed offerings available online from an industry program exchange and selected some excellent additions to our schedule, like Audio Book News, Hobby Radio and Keystrokes.
  • Added St. Clair Shores Educational TV to our growing list of community partners.

Listeners say we are on the right track.  Volunteer readers give 6,000 hours a year to fill a growing information void and increase self-sufficiency.  Their welcoming voices become companions and conduits to the world.  We hope every citizen may have equal access to in-depth, date-sensitive information and news in a format they can use.

We believe you share our vision and ask that you consider supporting DRIS today.  Sponsor a receiver for one new listener, sponsor a program, or give what you can.  Every dollar donated helps keep DRIS on-air to supply the joy of reading.  Plus, you may qualify for tax benefits for giving to a charitable cause, public broadcasting or higher education. You may also see tax relief for qualified retirement plans, stock, or annuities transfers.  Please consult with your financial advisor.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of DRIS listeners every day.  You are the best!

Warmest wishes from the Staff and Volunteers of DRIS!
